It was a warm summers day. The kind she hated because it reminded her of her mother and father. The three of them were out none the less enjoying their seat under the big oak tree in the front yard. Skye had grown incredibly attached to her adopted sister Amy who was now brushing her hair which to a stranger might have seemed weird but everyone else in the institute had become accustomed to Skye’s ghostly friends carrying things around her. The girls had become especially accustom to Dom squeezing their butts when they were walking in front of Skye or something.
At first rumour spread that Skye had lesbian tendencies but now that it was all explained everything was so much easier around the school. Everything was perfect in Seattle though. Skye had found her true family there. She had friends there. She had people who cared about her. Here? She was thrown straight into the deep end with not family beside her imaginary way passed dead best friends, Dominic and Amy. She gave a heavy sigh and bit into her apple looking out across the yard. Dominic rolled his eyes at her. ”Not this again. We’ve through this before. ”
Dominic lay across the blanket that was laid out for them by Amy and frowned at Skye as she chewed on her apple. ”Oh leave her alone Dom. She liked it in Seattle as did I. Its where we descend from. Its our home.” Amy leaned forwards and kissed Skye’s check with cold lips making Skye shiver at her touch. ”I’ve got your back sista.” Skye giggled and swallowed her piece of apple then lay her head on Amy’s lap.
”I just found it easier to get along with them. Its difficult here. I miss Null and I miss Zecttao and even Chase and the twins. ” She had met so many good people there. Especially Amy’s husband. Amy’s slender fingers stroked through Skye’s hair. ”I know. We’ll see them again one day…” ”Oh heads up… someone’s coming…” Skye lifted her eyes to the person approaching her little picnic spot and placed her apple down.

James sighed as he looked blankly down at his sketchbook.... Nothing, and there had been nothing for eleven months. And the ones from back then weren't his best... all the same though. He hadn't renewed the rent on his spot up on the pier, he didn't even have the muse for a portrait or a charicature. He could do a charicature in his sleep, but he couldn't do anything recently.
He twirled his finger and energy of different colours twirled around, slowly forming an image of a rose that shifted around to different shapes. Over the last year he'd been burying himself in training, and finally managed to unlock his full power. He could manipulate energy from the entire light spectrum now. Not just black and white. Although, he was still most familiar with black and white and still used it a lot.
He re-absorbed the energy and flipped back through the sketchbook, looking at old drawings. A white tiger with a scar over its eye leaping out of a burst of flame.... A group of lines that formed a mossaic of a rose that he'd never gotten around to colouring or inking.... A girl looking down at an English book with her hand pushing her hair out of her eyes....
He sighed, quietly shutting the book and tossing it on his bed. He turned and left, not turning to shut the book when it opened again to a page of an angel. He walked through the mansion, moving around people and ignoring most of them as he made his way out of the building. Why was he being like this again.... Was he that dependant? He shook his head and pushed it out of his mind for the moment.
He looked down at his hand and realized that he had a full soda in it, he'd picked up a couple on the way to his room and this one had been in his hand since he'd picked up his sketchbook, he just hadn't quite... noticed it. He shrugged and lifted it up, beginning to aimlessly wander around the grounds. Occassionally he tapped the back of his hand with the soon-empty bottle, and with the hand he played Beethoven's 5th on an air keyboard. That was all he'd been able to do with music, repeated drilling with no real originality. It was like his muse had decided to fly away....
Eventually he stopped his random wandering and looked around, realizing that he'd accidently invaded on someone's private picnic. "Oh, sorry, wasn't paying attention to where I was going."

Skye recognized James from even a distance and she started searching for the group of girls whispering about him and googling at him. She found none this time and it surprised her because there were almost always girls around James giggling and blushing and all kinds of things. She wasn't surprised through. He was attractive and handsome and sweet. She couldn't really blame them for acting like fan girls around James. He was the tall, dark tortured hero you read about in some romance novel.
She watched him play his piano with his free hand and her heart jumped into her chest when she realized he was heading her way. Her lips parted and her eyes widened slightly. She found herself glancing around for a place to hide instead of face the X-men's heart breaker. Oh God. What would she say to him. How could she ever talk to him. Amy's hands came to rest on her shoulders and Skye tensed up. "I'm sure he doesn't bite."
Her whisper made a shudder pass through Skye's body. She for a fleeting moment had the expression of a deer caught in the headlights as he stepped onto her picnic spot. Then he spook and Skye was sure she would melt into a puddle of jelly at the sound of his husky voice. James pretty much kept himself to himself so he probably had a girlfriend out there somewhere and Skye along with the other pack of girls were just none the wiser. Skye stared up at him for what seemed like ages before Dominic gave her a hard shove making her fall onto her side.
She let out a yelp and slowly pushed herself into a sitting possition. Dom then moved his hand hard into the back of James's knee hoping to make him fall onto the blanket with her. Amy couldn't help but giggle at Dom's matchmaking skills. "Oh uh... James... uh... no its ... fine..." Skye wanted to facepalm for acting the way she was in front of James. She actually was resembling one of his bloody fan girls.

James wasn't particularly paying attention as she spasmed a little bit. He had learned not to pay much attention to it over the last year. Apparently when you were dating someone, people that thought you were a weirdo before found you... interesting. Tack on being added as an official X-man recently and the fact that she was... gone... he was lucky if he found a moment's peace. Not that it really mattered for a moment's peace anymore, he didn't exactly have much to do.
He suddenly felt something hit him in the back of the knee, and it wasn't the first time that someone had hit him there. Or the second.... or the 120,210,291st.... He was used to being bullied, but he'd gotten around it. As he felt the knee buckle he bent back, managing a half-done side spin on his hands, in the direction the feeling had come from, effectivly felling the person that did it, and he got to get back on his feet. Usually anyway, this time there wasn't anyone there.
He wiped his eyes slightly, wondering what had happened. Maybe the sun was in his eyes or something? He focused his energy and a set of sunglasses made of black energy went around his momentarily green eyes, turning blue upon the activation of his power. It was something that intrigued some of the scientists in the mansion. When he activated his powers, his eyes changed colour. He didn't know why. Didn't really care to be entirely honest.
Must've been a speeder... I felt something before it tried to buckle. Not someone invisible... no shadow[/color] he thought. There weren't many teleporters at the school, and all of them made some sort of sound or something so he would have heard that. He glanced over at the person whose space he'd intruded upon as they started speaking. She was an odd one. Usually he was the one tripping over his words.
He reached down and wiped the dirt and grass stains on his pants, glancing around for a moment for a sign of a trash can before putting the empty bottle in his pocket. He shook his head hard. He could have sworn he heard a giggle from somewhere. But there was only him and the girl....
"Sorry again... um... sorry I don't think I know your name," he said, scratching the back of his head. She didn't look that familiar, maybe she was new? He usually remembered people he'd sketched... if she'd come in the last year or so she wouldn't have really registered. No muse usually meant he was bad with faces again. Otherwise everyone was in his sketchbook. He'd heard someone say he was the spitting image of another James that had gone to the school almost 20 years earlier... one of the teachers that'd gone with him.

Skye squeaked when she saw what Dom was doing to James and shot him an angry half glare. Her eyes fixed back on James and she pretended not to have seen him stumble like he did. Instead she pretended that he was looking for someone and she hoped to god it worked in her favour. ”Are you okay? ” She asked him glancing around as well. Dom smirked watching James search for him no doubt before he glanced to Amy and rolled his eyes at her. Skye was just too sweet to be forward enough to attract male attention.
Her other James, the name seemed to hold an interest to the young mutant, seemed to have been the one to push for her affections. He was long gone by now and hopefully a distant memory to Skye. They could only hope and pray that something happened soon to make Skye forget about wanting to go back to Seattle where she almost got beaten to a pulp as well. Dominic watched with interest turned to James as he formed sunglasses to settle on his face so he could peer at something that wasn’t even there. He was powerful too. ”He’s good looking according to Amy. He’s smart and he’s powerful. I’d just get up and kiss him if I were you Cielo.”
Skye’s eyes widened and her face flushed. She quickly covered her cheeks with her hands and hisses under her breath. ”Would you shut up?” ”What? I’m only trying to help here.” Amy chuckled softly letting her eyes skim over James for the hundredth time. They were so grateful for the fact that Skye’s powers allowed her to hear apparitions as well as see them. They would have had a real problem communicating otherwise. Her powers had also allowed him and Amy to be able to react to the worldly objects around them.
Skye had needed their protection and in exchange for it she had given part of her lifespan. They would protect her above all costs. Dominic facepalmed when the boy said that he didn’t know Skye’s name and Skye flushed slightly glancing down in embarrassment. ”That’s okay. Not many people know my name anyway.” Amy nudged sky to get her to stand up and Skye gave a soft squeak getting to her feet rather quickly and abruptly ”Introduce yourself honey. ”
Skye lifted her blue eyes to his and gave a soft smile ”Hi, I’m Skye. Skye Murdock” She held out her hand unsure what to do next. She was never good around boys anway.

"Fine..." he muttered. Maybe he'd finally snapped. That wouldn't be a particularly good thing. Would mean he wouldn't be that upset anymore though. But no, he didn't feel crazy. If he'd gone crazy he probably wouldn't have much concentration, and there'd be glass-like shards in his eyes. Which didn't sound particularly plesant. It made him a little... paranoid, so he was looking around a lot now. Usually if someone chose to target him it wouldn't be a one time thing. They would attempt to push their luck. The next one that tried it would hit a field of energy. If they broke through, okay, they'd get covered in the shards. If not, better, they'd hit the ground. He scratched his head as he heard her say the words 'shut up'. He hadn't said much.... Maybe he'd said one of his thoughts out loud? That would be a bit... unfortunate. He was still 'Pinning over Kennie' as one girl had put it. Although that girl had learned rather quickly that he didn't discriminate between genders. Especially when they were supposed to be super strong. "Um... sorry? I guess," he said. He put his hand in his pocket and toyed with his keys. Well, more of key. He'd stopped bothering to lock his room. People broke in anyway. This way they didn't have to knock down the door to get in. Granted it still happened occassionally, just not as often. "I wish people didn't know my name," he mumbled, stretching his arms back, still toying with the key in his hand. Normally he horded all the money that he made. He broke some out to pay for a date with McKenzie of course... but other than that he mostly kept it all. But, since she'd left he'd sort of broken into his savings (all of them really) and bought a... motorcycle. No one knew it was his fortunatly enough... he didn't need it being abducted. Or vandalized. Or completely destroyed. He kept it off of the property anyway, not that far. If you had a vehicle in the garage, it usually got 'borrowed' more than once. Probably not as much as the Brotherhood house. "Sorry Skye, if we've met before. I'm James... but you know that, I suppose," he said, then added. "I've just been off for a while..." The last year for example. James' Bike
